“Dealer” refers to service centers that specialize in one or two makes and sell those vehicles. As a franchise dealer:
  • They use top-quality manufacturer-recommended or “official” parts
  • Parts usually come with a manufacturer's warranty - ask the dealer about this as details may vary
  • They have the highest level of training and knowledge, and their labor rates may reflect this

Total Estimate:

Parts

$391 - $441

Labor

$256 - $300

“Independent” refers to a service center that services multiple makes instead of specializing. In addition:
  • They don't sell vehicles

About Brake Pad & Rotor Replacement

BulletIcon
Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Made of ceramic, organic or metallic material, brake pads squeeze against the brake disc rotors to slow the vehicle down. Every time you apply the brakes, the pads wear down a tiny bit. Eventually a wear indicator starts squeaking to tell you it’s time to replace the brake pads.  A mechanic can examine brake pad thickness during a tire rotation or other service. Sometimes you feel a vibration while applying the brakes. That’s a sign that you may need to  resurface or  replace the brake rotors. Resurfacing a brake rotor will extend the life of the rotors by grinding a tiny amount of the metal surface area away to remove any irregularities or other imperfections that have cropped up over time. After a while, the entire brake rotor may need replacement if it has become too thin (through repeated grindings) or warped from variations in temperature. Don’t delay, as brakes are probably one of the most critical safety devices on your vehicle, right up there with seat belts.

Chevrolet Maintenance Pricing & Schedules

Brand new Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUVs, like any vehicle, are quite the investment these days. As such, they deserve regularly scheduled maintenance to keep them in tip-top shape, ready for your next adventure.

Chevrolet encourages owners to properly maintain their vehicles and warrant them for a period of 3-years/36,000 miles for any vehicle defect. But that just covers a defect, not regular maintenance.

Chevrolet Included Maintenance

The division used to offer “Chevrolet Complete Care,” which for 2-years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, covered up to two oil changes and tire rotation. Starting with 2019 models, Chevrolet will cover your first required maintenance, within the first year of vehicle delivery (leased or bought) which consists of an oil change, tire rotation and multi-point vehicle inspection. Corvette owners will receive two maintenance visits within the first 12 months, while Chevy Bolt EV owners will receive tire-rotation and a multi-point vehicle inspection.

Chevrolet Maintenance Guidelines

Despite receiving those included services, Chevrolet recommends following the service schedule as outlined in the owner’s manual. They include oil changes based on your Chevrolet’s Engine Oil Life System that will alert you within 600 miles of a scheduled 7,500-mile oil change interval. With the system, a computer looks at a combination of factors including engine revolutions, temperature, and miles driven to track the useful oil life that remains. This scheduled service will also include a tire rotation and a multi-point vehicle inspection. Driven under optimal conditions, the oil life may be extended out to 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever comes first. At the same time, we recommend an all-wheel alignment to keep your Chevrolet tracking straight and true.

Chevrolet Maintenance Intervals

The rest of the service schedule comes directly from the Owner’s Manual. Here are just a few examples of service highlights:

7,500 Miles

Every 7,500 miles: At this interval, your Chevrolet mechanic should rotate tires, inspect brake pads and engine air filter, and following the Engine Oil Life System, change the oil and oil filter as necessary.

22,500 Miles

At 22,500 miles: Many of the same tasks as seen at 7,500 miles are repeated here, but they are joined with a replacement of the passenger in-cabin air filter.

30,000 Miles

Oil changes and tire rotations continue through the 30,000- and 37,500-mile range.

45,000 Miles

At 45,000 miles: It’s time for another oil and oil filter change, along with a tire rotation. But Chevrolet changes it up a bit, by adding a replacement of the in-cabin air filter, and an inspection of the evaporative control system. They wrap this service up by replacing the engine air cleaner filter, and a replacement of the rear axle fluid, if your car is equipped with a Limited-Slip Differential.

These are all basics that every owner should be aware of. Just remember to keep in mind, the 7,500-mile intervals that appear like clockwork for proper service of your Chevrolet vehicle.

Pre-Paid Maintenance Plan

Chevrolet offers a Pre-Paid Maintenance plan which includes the standard maintenance program (Oil and Filter Changes along with tire rotation), and may include air filters, cabin air filters, transmission and transfer fluid changes, and spark plugs.

At every service, Chevrolet service technicians and mechanics will perform a Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection. At this point, they inspect certain aspects of your vehicle including battery condition, wheel alignment and tire wear, brake wear, windshield wiper wear, and connectivity status to OnStar.

Extended Service/Extended Warranty

GM now has an extended warranty program where Chevrolet will offer coverage that pushes out bumper-to-bumper protection from 3 years/36,000 miles to 5 years/60,000 miles. This extended contract will be offered at the time of sale and the cost, is between $1,000 to $2,000 depending on brand and model, can be rolled into the price of the vehicle and financed. If the owner opts for the additional coverage, the extended terms stay with car through subsequent owners. GM stresses that this isn’t a service contract, but rather an extension of the vehicle’s original warranty.

Chevrolet Pre-Paid Maintenance Plus Plan

For service that extends beyond the traditional 3-year/36,000-mile service interval, Chevrolet owners can subscribe to the Chevrolet Pre-Paid Maintenance Plus plan with additional coverage for approved repairs. Maintenance coverage options range from 24-month/30,000-mile to 180-month/150,000-mile plans. If a covered breakdown occurs, you will have access to GM certified service technicians at any one of the 4,000-plus GM dealerships nationwide. Other terms and conditions apply.

The program extends the warranty life of the engine, transmission, drive axle, turbochargers or superchargers, transfer case, steering, braking and air conditioning components along with coverage for all seals and gaskets. The program is transferable to the person that you sell or otherwise transfer your vehicle to. Examine program brochures and contracts for more details.
