FIAT Recalls

The Fiat has been subject to a handful of recalls over the past several years involving the Fiat 500, 500e electric car, 500L and 500X crossover.

In 2017, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV recalled more than 25,000 2014 Fiat 500L vehicles for possible hesitation issues.

The automaker said it knows of no related injuries or accidents associated with the issue. The fix is a software calibration update to help control accelerator-pedal function.

Fiat Chrysler said the recall completion rate was 69.9 percent as of April 2018, the latest data available.

In 2016, the automaker recalled more than 39,100 2012-16 Fiat 500 city cars equipped with manual transmissions. In these vehicles, the clutch diaphragm spring could break and fail and the driver might not be able to switch gears or the car could lose power. The automaker knows of no injuries or accidents related to the issue. The fix for this recall includes installing a clutch pedal limiter and clutch pedal switch. Fiat Chrysler said the recall completion rate was 65.5 percent as of April 2018, the last data available.

Also in 2016, Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 329,000 vehicles, including the 2016 Fiat 500X crossover, with a 9-speed automatic transmission. In these vehicles, a problem can cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift to neutral. Fiat Chrysler, which knows of no accidents or injuries related to the issue. Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module and transmission control module and replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, if needed. The completion rate for this recall is 80 percent as of April 2018, the latest data available, FCA says.

Fiat 500e also has been subject to two recalls for issues that the propulsion system may shut down. In 2015, 5,660 2013-15 Fiat 500e electric vehicles were recalled for a software glitch that could cause the electric propulsion system to shut down.

The company knows of no related injuries or accidents and the fix is a software upgrade. In that recall, 87.3 percent of vehicles received the upgrade as of October 2016, the last data available, FCA says.

In 2016, Fiat Chrysler also recalled more than 16,500 2013-2016 500es over an issue with a faulty power inverter module, which could lead to the propulsion system shutting down and loss of vehicle power. Fiat Chrysler knows of no related injuries or accidents. Dealers will perform a software update. That recall has an 80.9 percent completion rate as of January 2018, the latest data available, according to Fiat Chrysler.
